Washing your bicycle or e-bike

You can wash a bike at a self-service car wash, but gently: soak the dirt, rinse from a large distance, never aim at bearings, hubs, the bottom bracket or e-bike electronics, and clean the chain separately. For e-bikes, remove the battery and cover the contacts first. In Passau, Die Sauberei Waschpark has a free bicycle holder in all 4 bays – it holds your bike upright so both hands are free.

  1. Fix the bike At Die Sauberei: push it next to the holder arm and fold the arm down over the frame.
  2. E-bike: battery out Cover contacts, remove or cover the display, close the charging port.
  3. Soak Pre-wash or foam on frame, tyres, mudguards.
  4. Rinse gently Large distance, flat angle – not on bearings, hubs, bottom bracket, headset, motor or connectors.
  5. Chain separately Degreaser and brush instead of high pressure.
  6. Dry and lube Blow water out of derailleur and frame, then oil the chain.

Mountain bike after mud

Wash while the mud is still wet – dried mud needs more pressure. Wipe fork stanchions and shock seals with a soft cloth rather than spraying them.
